(Please see the previous three reviews of our 1975 Dillon Lake Encounter to bring you up to this forth review.) (Please note that the photos from Google Earth shown here were taken much later than 1975. When we revisited the campground in the early 2000s most of the trees were already gone, due to the Pine Bark Beetle and possibly a forest fire)
After the craft flew off toward the southwest, Kindy and I walked back to the campfire and, again, we discussed what we could recall. We began to talk of other things and also began to play the guitar and sing. And as you have probably already guessed, this was not the end of our encounters this unusual evening.
Suddenly we saw some strange activity to our south, just in front of the tent. There was a distorted air and a somewhat luminous small cloud of fog. I’m not quite sure of the sequence, but eventually we saw a small booth-like structure sitting on the ground. I know now it was the small booth. However this time there was no strange illumination or light involved. It was dark with everything around us illuminated dimly by the campfire and I believe a light at the toilets which were several feet to our northwest.
However, just before we began walking, I noticed what I now know was “the windowed saucer” hovering very close to the top of our trailer. But the sight of the booth was so strange and the others making a direct route toward it distracted me enough that I followed them.
When we stood in front of it, the interior illuminated somewhat brightly, and “the voice began to talk about eternal knowledge, history and the Native American in phrases and sentences that really didn’t make too much sense. The voice also invited all to get into the booth and sit on the bench.
Alth0ugh I didn’t know it at the time, the small booth looked just like other small booths others and I had encountered since my birth…one open window on either side of and open door that was centered in the front wall and one short bench on each side wall. Each of those benches normally could handle two adult humans. Also, those small booths were shorter front to back than side to side. However, this one like a few others had a bench in a different place, this time along the west side wall, which was longer than normal and the bench was longer than normal front to back.
Standing at the front, just in front of the windows and door, we talked about what we were seeing and hearing. However, I was so puzzled I feared for our safety. Yet, the the way in which the voice spoke seemed friendly but not too personable. After a short period of listening to the voice, Kindy got in, then Annie and I. We sat on the bench and tried to figure out what the voice meant and what was happening. After discussing it for a time, Kindy said she knew what it meant and explained something about history, eternal knowledge and the Native Americans. I didn’t quite get it and I believe neither did Annie.
During this period Kari and my father arrived at the front of the booth and Kari and Brad poked their heads in the door a few times. We all made comments and asked questions trying to figure out what was happening. It seem strange that the interior was illuminated by something we wouldn’t detect and the exterior was not illuminated. Not knowing it at the time, the exterior was normally illuminated by something we couldn’t see during encounters that occurred previously.
We tried to coax Brad to get in with us but he declined and stayed outside with Kari and my father.
Eventually, when we could make no more sense of it, we all got out and I believe Annie eventually insisted that the kids start to get ready for bed…which of course made no sense. However, it was evident that she was not totally aware of many of the strange happenings this unusual evening. And it’s fair to say that the rest of us didn’t fully recall what had happened from strange episode to episode. I do recall seeing, as I walked from the campfire to the trailer, the windowed saucer materialize at least once, then fade away into the atmosphere.
This is when Brad addressed me directly. He stood right next to me and told me that he had to go out into forest. He said it was an irresistible knowledge or feeling as if something was telling him to go. I immediately recognized that I also had experienced the same feelings at least a few times in my past and that I could not resist those feelings. In other words, I completely understood, so I allowed him to go off into the woods by himself…of course warning him to be extremely careful and to yell and run back if anything threatening took place.
Brad’s narration of what happened to him when he was alone in the woods can be found under Home page overview of John’s story in the black strip above …and a more detailed narration in Appendix B in the book Eminent Discovery.
As the girls were preparing their tent, we were preparing the trailer for sleep, all while Brad was in the woods. When he returned, we finally all went to bed and slept the entire night….as far as I can recall. The crafts and booth had gone.
The following morning none of us could recall what had taken place. However, Kari sat down on a log and peered off into space, as if something was bothering her. She stayed on the log even as we were ready to get into our car and leave. It took some time to convince her to get into the car. She said she had an overwhelming melancholy feeling that was so over powering she didn’t want to move. She didn’t want to leave for some reason she could not understand.
We crawled into our car and drove to the toilets and showers near the entrance to the campground. We possibly had a short sighting or encounter there. We then drove on to Gunnison, Colorado, then on up into the rugged mountains at Lake City where my father had spent the few wonderful years of his youth, where we again encountered strange objects and craft…and where I had, decades before, experienced UFO encounters with my aunt and uncle and their family during one of our “lost trips”…then on to Crede, Colorado…on to Denver and Alt, Colorado where my mothers great aunt lived…then on to Lincoln. At various places places along the way at least some sightings occurred.
(This entire encounter to be continued in a summary analysis in a following article.)
